February and March Recap!

Welp, that didn’t work out - ha! I had the best intentions to keep up with my creative habits (as I wrote about in my previous blog) but there has truly been too much to do. Our lives are filled with just work, house fixing, kids. And I like those things - but not only those things.

Its so hard to limit your life and interests when you feel you want to do, consume and create so much. But it is just a season of life. When my kids were babies and I felt like all I did was work, parent, sleep, someone told me it was just a season in life. At the time - It didnt feel that way at all (it felt insanely long - long sleepless nights and long sleepy kinda boring days) but looking back it was truly a blink of time. Flynn and Fox being so small feels really a long time ago and wish I could have stress a bit less about losing my me time and losing me to the crazy demands of parenting. This is another time where there is less art, yoga, wacky creations, but it will pass (I am 94% sure it will pass - :)).

For now I am going to feel good about creating a paired down house, enjoy the insanity of staying up late with Jared having a beer and talking about life and painting strategies, and being creative and learning on the new job. I will also just process what I can- plan for the new life, hang with friends here and soak up all we will miss about our home here.

Recapping all creative things this month

Painting

The house is 50% lemon edge now (that is the color of the off white we chose). With the door and accent wall sage. It is not what I would choose for a whole house - but it looks good and beautifully free of child fingerprints. Also got to roller skate around this cleared out house.

Now that i see white paint everywhere I am obsessed with colorful houses. And cannot wait to do a home for real. I feel wildly capable- like I could truly tackle interior job that comes my way.

Some things I liked this month:

Malin’s Fountain - New troll dropped in Austin this month. This danish Artist, Thomas Dambo, has made 100s of trolls throughout the world from recycled wood. https://trollmap.com

All About Love: New Visions by Bell Hooks - I’ve heard of this book and Bell Hooks, but really knew nothing of it and vaguely thought it was about romance. No! this book is powerful and treats love as a force that we need to take seriously and truly talk about in our society. Not everything has aged well since it was written in the late 1990s but it is refreshing take on what love is and how to incorporate it in our lives for meaningful change.

Adventure time I just finished the finale with the family! A boy and his dog go on adventures - a classic tale set, but set in a surreal world that is full of magic and bizarre characters. But it is really about friendship, finding yourself, coming of age, and the absurdity of being alive. I am a huge fan of Ice King and his backstory. I love that the kids adored this show that explores life in a creative way.
